STRACHUR PS.
The catchment area of the school is wide, taking in Loch Restil on the A83, past Cairndow and Dunderave Castle to the north. To the west it takes in Strathlachlan, and stretches to the south halfway along Loch Eck. It is non-denominational and co-educational and covers stages Primary 1 to Primary 7, often in composite classes. The school makes good use of the rich local environment of forest, mountain and seashore in its environmental studies programmes. It has an active PTA and School Board and enjoys close links with the village community, and many members of the village make welcome contribution to the life of the school. We have been approached once again to support the school by providing funds for the Christmas pantomime. The event brings the whole community together in school as the audience stretches from babies to the elderly members of the lunch club!!
LOCHGOILHEAD PS
The high Argyllshire hills, which surround the village, gives the school an unrivalled situation. Lochgoilhead Primary School, with its large grass playing fields, is situated off the main road near the edge of the village. The school which is non-denomination and village are part of the Argyll forest. Employment opportunities include the leisure and tourism industry at Drimsynie Holiday Park, HM Navy base, Outdoor Education Centres at Ardroy and Lochgoilhead and farming. We are supporting sessions Yoga & Creative Movement. This is an important intervention for children identified with addition support needs – the interventions have proven to help develop self emotional regulation.
So two wonderful schools…far from the beaten path with huge budget constraints, both with differing needs!
