BP Society Painting Sale

Mal Phillips paintings auctioned for charity

In November 2020 the BP Society newsletter featured a painting on the cover called ‘Forties Fly By’. It was painted by a prolific painter of the oil industry, and ex BP, Mal Phillips. However it was another exBP employee , Alan Bowlas of Berwick who suggested the painting be auctioned off for charity.  Mal didn’t hesitate and offered the society more paintings to auction off.  By a quirk of fate our director Johnny Martin had been in touch with Peter Lay, editor of the BP Society Newsletter, who then offered any monies realised in the auction – to be run in February 2021 to Kiran’s Trust.  We were astounded to be chosen for this and were to be further astounded when Peter told us that a grand total of £1350.08 had been made in the auction! (The 8 pence is due to a foreign exchange transaction as two go the paintings went to the USA!)

We extend our sincere gratitude for the generous gifts raised by selling Mal’s wonderful oil industry paintings…a few donors now have unique artworks hanging in their homes! Thanks also to the BP Society for thinking of us – and doing all the hard work!
